Children in Worship
During Sunday worship, the children sit with the rest of the congregation until the minister calls them forward for “Children’s Time.” Rev. Roberto and his “young Christian friends” then take part in a fun and engaging Gospel conversation. This part of worship is always a joy for the minister, children and congregation. To close Children’s Time, the congregation sings a hymn and recites the Lord’s Prayer with the children before they head downstairs for Sunday School.
Sunday School
The goal of our Sunday School ministry
During Sunday School, CE staff and volunteers read scripture together with the children and share in activities meant to make the Word of God relevant in the lives of our young friends. We like to link passages to an activity, a craft, or a movement game.
Our Sunday School follows the same lectionary schedule of readings as the rest of the congregation. The lectionary is an intentional map that charts a three-year path through the Bible. By learning and praying the same texts as the rest of the congregation, we help to encourage Gospel sharing and reflection between St. Andrew’s adults, children and parents.
Nursery
Parents with babies and young children are always welcome in worship! However, there are times when it may be necessary for mom or dad to take their little ones to the nursery to provide them with care. Our nursery is located at the bottom level of the church, next to the washrooms. This is a safe, clean room equipped with a baby gate, change table and age-appropriate toys.
Afraid to miss out on the service? We thought of that! Turn on the TV in the nursery to hear what’s happening in the sanctuary upstairs. If it is not already on instruction can be found on the wall.
Leading with Care
Leading with Care is “A Policy for Ensuring a Climate of Safety for Children, Youth and Vulnerable Adults in The Presbyterian Church in Canada.” It is designed to prevent abuse and protect the vulnerable by providing a safe environment (including screening leaders and teachers) and to train and support leaders and teachers and to report any incidents of abuse, neglect and harm to the appropriate agencies.
