Chapel Communion Service: On Sunday, May 17th there will be a short Communion service following the regular morning worship. This is especially for those who may be unable to attend the Communion service on Pentecost Sunday, May 24th, or for those who would like to participate more frequently. It will be about ten minutes in length.
Pentecost and Holy Communion will be celebrated on Sunday, May 24th. This is the day that we remember the gift of the Holy Spirit being poured out on the gathering of disciples at Jerusalem after Jesus’ ascension into heaven. The Spirit empowered those disciples to communicate the good news about Jesus in all the languages of the world, and we trust that we have received that same Spirit of power and love in our continuing mission to the world.
Full Inclusion of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, & Transgender persons in The Presbyterian Church in Canada: At the General Assembly of The Presbyterian Church in Canada (June 4-8, 2015), one of the subjects of discussion will be the proposal that LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) people be fully welcomed in the church.
The Presbyteries of Waterloo-Wellington, East Toronto, and Calgary have endorsed overtures to the General Assembly which ask the church’s highest court to allow every person regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity to be full participants in the life and work of the denomination.
Although each overture is unique, they share the basic proposals that the denomination fully include gay and lesbian Presbyterians without discrimination in the ministries of the church including ordained ministries, and that the church bless same-sex marriages.
On Wednesday, May 27th at 7:00 p.m. we will have an open discussion of this issue at St. Andrew’s. Everyone is welcome to attend and participate in this open, respectful dialogue.
The Next Women’s Breakfast will be held at Mulberry’s on 3rd Ave on Saturday, May 30th from 8:30-10:30 am. Come and bring a friend and enjoy the program and fellowship.
St. Andrew’s Annual Program Meeting will take place on Sunday, May 31st following the worship service. In preparation, all committees and groups are asked to submit a report to the church office by Sunday, May 17th.
Camp Shirts For Kids: $10/shirt The Camp Christopher Committee would like to be able to provide a camp shirt for every child and youth that attends camp this summer. A camp shirt will be treasured by all the campers, and especially those who come to camp through generous campership programs. Sending the campers home with camp shirts will also help to promote the camp in our schools and communities.
The Session of St. Andrew’s has agreed to encourage donations to buy t-shirts for the campers this summer, and we hope that you will want to help out. For only $10 you can buy a shirt for a camper, and for $100 you can buy shirts for a whole cabin group! Our goal is to raise enough money for 250 shirts. (That’s just about one shirt per member of St. Andrew’s!)
When you donate $10 we will hang a “shirt” on the clothesline and put your first name on it. If you donate $100 we’ll put a really big shirt on the line to represent your really big gift.
