Refugee Sponsorship – A Learning Opportunity: The Tri-Church Refugee Committee is continuing to prepare for the arrival of our Syrian family, and want to invite you to participate in an upcoming learning opportunity. We will be hosting a guest speaker from the Open Door Society on Wednesday, May 4th at 7:00 pm who will speak to us about “Cultural Bridging for Sponsors of Syrian Refugees.” This will take place at St. Andrew’s in the lower hall of the church. The Committee wants to learn about cultural differences and issues that may help us in providing appropriate hospitality when our family arrives, and we are inviting other members of our congregations to attend as well.
The Thursday Group Will Meet on Thurs, May 5th at 1:30 pm in St. Andrew’s lower hall. Trudy Janssens will share unique images taken in Holland, Austria, Germany, Italy, Argentina, Japan and Canada. Be prepared to view the world from a different perspective, just as van Gogh did. All are welcome!
Walk For Parish Nursing: InterChurch Health Ministries – SK invites you to participate in the 7th annual fundraising and awareness walk in support of parish nursing on Sat, May 7th at 9:30 am, starting and finishing at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. You may participate in two ways: You may join the walkers and seek pledges, or you may sponsor someone who is walking. The walk is approximately 4 km long, though participants may opt for a shorter distance if they wish.
Sponsorship forms for those who wish to participate are available on the entranceway table. Rev. Amanda’s form is also on the table, in case you would like to sponsor her for the walk.
Cupcakes! Plan to stay after worship on Sunday, May 8th to congratulate all those church members who participated in the “Spring Posies Reading Challenge.” The Daffodils won the competition by doing the most Bible reading, but everyone gets to enjoy a celebratory treat!
Work Weekend At Camp Christopher: Lend a hand during Camp Christopher’s annual work weekend, May 13th-15th. There are jobs for every different skill set. Pentecost Sunday is May 15th. Wear red, orange, or yellow to celebrate the fire of the Holy Spirit at work in and through the church! We will also share Holy Communion on Pentecost Sunday, and there will be a Chapel Communion following worship on Sunday May 22nd for anyone who may miss it on May 15th.
The Pastoral Care Committee will host a “Global Potluck Lunch” on Sunday May 15th following the service. Bring your favourite ethnic dish and stay for food and fellowship! You may bring your food to the kitchen before the service.
The next Women’s Breakfast will be held on Saturday, May 28th at 8:30 am at Mulberry’s restaurant on 3rd Avenue. All women are invited to come.
St. Andrew’s Annual Program Meeting will be held on Sunday, May 29th. Plan to stay a little longer and hear about the highlights of this year’s programs, as well as exciting new plans for the coming year.
